Host-Pathogen Interactions and Therapeutic Discovery
Our lab studies how bacterial pathogens adapt to the host during prolonged infection, and how changes in the host environment enable pathogens to persist and co-exist with their hosts. We focus on two pathogens: (1) Achromobacter xylosoxidans (Ax) is a versatile bacterium found in multiple environmental settings that rapidly develop antibiotic resistance and persist in patients for prolonged period of time, particularly in individuals with cystic fibrosis (CF) and immunocompromised conditions; (2) Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and ESKAPE pathogen that frequently “escapes” antibiotic treatment and is one of the most common causes of health care-associated infections worldwide.
